The EMG experts have struck again. It's been 5 years since Blueback introduced Deep-EMG® to the world of physiotherapy. And even today, the Blueback Physio remains the only device (in the world) to enable visualization and measurement of the transversus abdominis in motion and in real time. With this device, Blueback has opened up a whole new field of possibilities for physiotherapists and their patients. And they've decided to continue in this vein with the release of a brand new feature: the EMG-4000.
Caroline and Clément, founders of Blueback, explain it all on video! 🖥️ Take a look (⚠️ in french) !
What is "EMG-4000" ?
The name says it all. This new option integrated into Blueback Physio allows users to record surface muscle activity in the conventional way. Conventional, because unlike Deep-EMG® , which emerged only 5 years ago, EMG is a technology that has been around for decades. Back then, EMG was used solely for functional exploration and research. Recently, however, this method is increasingly being used by physiotherapists. For what purpose, you may ask?
Let us name them for you:
To assess muscle function (muscle coordination, symmetry, muscle fatigue),
To monitor progress in rehabilitation,
To awaken patients' body awareness through biofeedback
Blueback has decided to take this approach a step further and offer healthcare professionals a device that enables them to measure deep and surface muscle activity. And all with a single device: the Blueback Physio!
Different from other EMGs? More powerful?
If better performance = more accurate, then yes! To make things clearer, we've listed the features of the latest Blueback innovation 👍
High-frequency acquisition at 4000 Hz for greater accuracy,
2 additional cable-free acquisition channels,
A fully portable system based on the Blueback Physio,
A simple, uncluttered interface,
Simultaneous testing on 2 channels, and real-time display,
Automatic calculation of key indicators for physiotherapists,
Export of your recordings for post-acquisition analysis,
Visualization in RMS or MVC mode,
Reminder sheets on EMG, electrode placement and good measurement practices!
Benefits for users
Blueback Physio is a powerful monitoring tool. And with the EMG-4000 option, it becomes even more interesting. Let us tell you why.
Working on the transversus abdominis regularly comes up against a major problem: the rectus abdominis will very often inhibit contraction of this deep muscle. How can we be sure of this, and how can we make patients understand it? By using Deep-EMG® to evaluate the reflex and voluntary action of the transverse muscle, and if there is no visible signal and no improvement on the part of the patient despite the physiotherapist's instructions: switch to EMG-4000. Having these two biofeedbacks at your fingertips on a single device will make it easier and quicker for the patient (and the physiotherapist!) to become aware of each of these muscles. And without wasting time setting up a thousand and one devices during the session.
And of course, the EMG-4000 option will enable physiotherapists to target all the surface muscles that might be of interest for rehabilitation. In this way, the practitioner can explore the desired surface muscles, and/or target work on the transverse abdominis. Physiological muscle exploration is yours!
The EMG-4000 option: for what clinical applications?
In terms of specific clinical applications, post-operative rehabilitation of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is an excellent example. During this rehabilitation, exploration of the quadriceps muscles is crucial to assess the level of recovery and to re-establish symmetries between the operated and non-operated leg.
Surface EMG / EMG-4000 will enable us to closely monitor quadriceps muscle activity and ensure that exercises are performed correctly. And guess what? The transverse abdominis muscle plays an essential role in knee stability and support! Can you see where we're going with this? Deep-EMG® will therefore be an asset for the practitioner, who will be able to monitor the activity of this deep muscle and guarantee its correct activation.
In short, Blueback's EMG-4000 option offers physiotherapists a powerful tool for analyzing fatigue, symmetries, engagement and muscular endurance. It has essential clinical applications, as in the post-operative ACL rehabilitation we've just seen. With the EMG-4000, rehabilitation becomes more precise, more effective and more personalized than ever. Performance and simplicity are the key words for this EMG option.
